01

Keep preparation simple

You do not need an elaborate detox routine before lymphatic drainage. Arrive in comfortable clothing, allow enough travel time and avoid rushing into the clinic immediately after a large meal. Normal hydration is sensible, but forcing excessive water is unnecessary.

The most important preparation is accurate information. Tell the clinic about relevant diagnoses, medication, pregnancy, recent infection, unexplained swelling, surgery and your treating practitioner's instructions.

02

What to wear and bring

Loose clothing is easiest before and after a body treatment. Depending on the service, you may be asked to change privately. Draping should protect your comfort throughout the session.

  • Wear soft, easy-to-change clothing.
  • Bring any surgeon clearance or treatment instructions requested by the clinic.
  • Keep a list of relevant medication or health information if it is difficult to remember.
  • Avoid applying heavy body products immediately before your appointment unless the clinic advises otherwise.

03

Food, water and exercise

Eat normally, allowing enough time to feel comfortable when lying down. A light meal is often easier than a very heavy one immediately before treatment. Continue your usual hydration rather than trying to compensate at the last minute.

If you plan vigorous exercise, consider scheduling it separately so the treatment can remain an unhurried part of your day. Follow medical guidance if your activity is restricted after surgery or illness.

04

When preparation means postponing

Contact the clinic before attending if you are unwell, have a fever, a new infection, sudden swelling, unusual pain, shortness of breath or another symptom that has not been assessed. These signs require health advice, not a wellness massage.

If you have recently had surgery, the clinic needs to know the procedure and date. Clearance may be required, and a treatment may need to be changed or postponed based on your recovery.
